There’s a phrase I heard a lot before I became a mother, but I never really understood it until I was a mother. “Motherhood will be the hardest most gratifying job you will ever have.” And every word holds a mountain of truth you didn’t know existed until your little human comes along.
Every day brings new challenges with really amazing highs and really hard, tearful lows. This journey of motherhood is not meant to be taken alone. We need other mothers to walk with and support us when we need it. As I began to shift my focus of photography to families I couldn’t help but notice mothers and their relationships with their children. I would see these sweet tender moments in the middle of a tantrum. Or a loving hand reaching out to catch a baby just before she fell. Moments that on first glance seem mundane, but when your heart is open, reveal a colorful tapestry of mothers loving their kids with everything they have.

Born from a place of curiosity and my own need to connect, Discovering Motherhood sessions bring mothers together for support instead of pitting them against each other in a battle of who is right. These sessions focus on the every day moments that make your story of motherhood unique and yet still bind us all together. Our challenges may be different but we all mother from the heart. I want you to see that these sometimes hard, exhausting, and worry filled days are not in vain. I want you to see the strong warrior mama you are. Define motherhood on your own terms and encourage other mothers to do the same.
You won’t find anyone else doing sessions like these. I’m not a photographer for every one. Sessions are raw, authentic and can be incredible vulnerable. Myself included, I don’t sugar coat how hard this job is. But what I do promise is you will leave with a renewed sense of humble responsibility and gratitude. You are doing an amazing job even when you think you’re not, and I will show you in spades.
